Press Release

Galerie de la Ville presents in October/November an exhibition of acrylic paintings entitled The Poetry of Nature by Beaconsfield artist Amneris Fernandez. Fernandez explores the many moods of Nature through subjects rendered realistically and meticulously executed, mostly in acrylics and oils. His theme centers on the expression of normally hidden or invisible energies, at least those usually hidden from or invisible to human beings.

In High Realism, a polar bear stands poised, proud, reminding us that we share this planet; the gaze of a wolf is attentive, intelligently communicative and expectant; Fernandez’s animals are alive, right in their environment and regal, whether they are alone, grouped at rest, or active, like a pack of dogs racing a sled, or a herd of horses galloping free, Wolves are a favourite subject as themselves, but also as forces in the artist’s dreams. While Fernandez’s treatment of his subject matter is always highly representational, he also interprets his imagery in a Surrealistic style, for Nature is also a force. The energy generated by life itself as imagined in colour and form becomes the linking factor in paintings even of fruit, for instance, or in renderings of the female nude.

Amneris Fernandez is originally from Venezuela, where, he began his artistic studies at the Venezuela Cristobal Rojas School of Fine Arts in Caracas. He continued his studies in London, England at the St. Martin School of Fine Arts. He has lived in Quebec, Canada since 1988 where he adapted his decidedly South American sensibility to his new North American environment and where his interest in Surrealism was awakened.

The opening reception for this exhibition will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 1 to 3 pm. The artist will be present.

The exhibition will run from Saturday, October 18 to Sunday, November 16, 2014, at Galerie de la Ville, located in the lower level of the Dollard Cultural Centre, at 12001 de Salaberry Boulevard, in Dollard-des-Ormeaux.
